Graphic Design

The genesis of my interest in visual thinking and design solutions.

I had quite a rudimentary understanding of what design was before I got to Stanford. Little did I know how much satisfaction I would get from learning these skills.

In June 2024, I was offered the role of Director of Marketing and Media for Stanford FashionX, a pre-professional club for current students interested in a creative career. I was offered the role because of my demonstration of sound design principles and personal design style through my work as Director of Marketing and Media at FORTYTWO CO LLC. My role responsibility at FORTYTWO CO included creating promotional marketing material and managing media conceptualization and execution, which translated into over $300,000 in sale revenue within my first year. My first deliverable as Director of Marketing and Media for Stanford FashionX was a full professional rebrand for the club, as seen above.

Above are some Procreate drawings of a character I created at the beginning of 2024 called Milocat. This exercise was to practice my character design skills, as I have been creating characters with stories, drawings and paintings for a long time and feel the desire to translate that foundational knowledge about character design into a digital medium. This project was very enjoyable and took me just over a day to complete.

Between July - Sept 2024, I worked as a private studio assistant to Abby Banks, a Bay Area artist represented by Minnesota Street Project. My role responsibilities included assisting Ms. Banks in reaching deadlines for commissions, general apprenticeship work, and most notably - preparing Ms. Banks for the annual San Francisco Art Book Fair (July 18-21) where she exhibited this years’ work. As well as creating this zine for a collaborative project between herself and Naoko Tani, a queer Japanese photographer, I also collated and treated 1,250 BW photographs by Ernesto Mendez for his publication ‘Sudor Station’, print and cut over 500 Auspicious Books business cards and photographed two of Ms. Banks’ risograph projects in anticipation for her exhibition.

While my main deliverables as Director of Marketing and Media for FORTYTWO CO LLC were photographs and films, I also created graphic design elements, narrative storylines, characters, and promotional materials for our products. Above is a poster I created in Adobe Illustrator for a product we recently developed, custom-made acrylic sunglasses with tinted lenses. The product has yet to be released, but I did have a great deal of fun creating this Orwellian spyware propaganda.

While working at FORTYTWO CO LLC, I was tasked with the challenge of elevating the brand past simple consumer products. Therefore, for our FOOTYTWO 2023/4 capsule collection, I created an extensive narrative to base our products around. I conducted research on FIFA’s bribery scandals in order to write a satirical fictional story wherein the 2042 World Cup comes under fire over allegations of match-fixing, so as to make light of the disgraceful legacy of Sepp Blatter following his decades-long rule as President of FIFA. Above is a zine which I co-authored and illustrated that customers received as an add-on when they purchased a product from our FOOTYTWO capsule. The intention of this zine was to invigorate brand loyalty in our customer base by demonstrating our company’s desire to go above and beyond to create an immersive and thought-out experience for customers.

Perhaps my personal favourite deliverable from my time at FORTYTWO CO is this simple New Yorker Cartoon that I illustrated on Procreate. I took references from a clip on Youtube from a 2015 FIFA conference, where British journalist Simon Brodkin “Lee Nelson” infamously showered Sepp Blatter in money, thanking him for ‘securing his bid to host the 2026 World Cup’. You may notice that we jumbled the letters in FIFA around to spell out IAFF, which in our FOOTYTWO Capsule narrative stands for the ‘International Association of Fixed Football’, our version of FIFA in the FORTYTWO Universe.

In June 2023, I was commissioned to create branding materials for a Costa Rican burger restaurant, El Chante. The restaurant started as a small food stall in Nosara in 2023 and has since expanded to three locations, including Tamarindo and San Jose. I currently still work alongside the founder and owner of the restaurant and routinely create new mock-ups for food packaging, menu design and interior design for the team.

I joined Stanford’s chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta in April 2023 and took a senior position as an intra-greek designer for my chapter in January of 2024. My role responsibilities include creating promotional material for charity events like Thetabreakers (a 5k fun-run to raise money for CASA), our annual Rush process, and events such as Special Dinner and Formal. As well as this, I am a lead designer for my chapter’s merchandise, which I have linked under WORK > PRODUCT DESIGN in this portfolio.
