COLLABORATIVE PROJECT
Role responsibilities: casting, asset design, story, storyboarding, talent management, production.
This was my first contribution to FashionX as President (2025-present). Over the summer, I met with my Co-President to brainstorm ways to publicize our club and re-slate our outer-facing image in the undergraduate community.
There were two diagnoses that I had to treat while building out this project:
Firstly - in prior years, FashionX had garnered a reputation as an exclusive, cliquey, and appearance-based space.
Secondly - a barrier to entry for students had always been ineffective publication of meeting times and upcoming events. Even hopeful new members struggled to find a clear path to joining.
I proposed a punchy video that outlined our new club identity: inclusive, pre-professional, and a champion of self-directed student enterprising. I conceptualized a stereotype of a Stanford student to be our main character - nerdy, slightly shy, and longing for belonging.
The storyboard I created starts with the nerd getting flanked in an elevator by two chic FashionX members, who invite him to join their first meeting. In the next scene, he leads a v-formation of members to the Hassno Platter Institute of Design (where we hold our meetings). I wanted to communicate that anyone can be a part of FashionX, and that they should come as they are - no barriers, no makeovers - nothing.
I reached out to a Bay Area filmmaking crew I had befriended a few months prior. I created a cohesive pitch deck detailing our concept, budget, and proposed collaborative relationship. I got an immediate βyesβ. This was not my first experience working with professionals, but it was my first time leading such a collaboration.
We filmed for two days, and it was scrappy. The crew brought in a van of high-tech equipment and my Co-President and I scrambled to wardrobe the sets and actors. We got ejected from multiple locations and had to think fast to get the shots we needed. But we got the job done, and the reception we received from the community was incredible. Our goals had verifiably been met.
This project was an opportunity for me to practice liaising with industry professionals, hone my pitching and deck-making skills, and reaffirm my resourcefulness to my team and myself.
