‘For the rivalry’
Promotional Mini-Series Installment
COLLABORATIVE DELIVERABLE FOR CO-FOUNDED STARTUP
In my time as CMO of FORTYTWO CO, an experimental design company I co-founded as a freshman with two Stanford CS majors, we generated over $488,000 in revenue ($166,000 pure profit). These numbers are a direct translation of my marketing strategy, execution, and management.
Role responsibilities: audio technician, mic operation, casting, asset design, talent management, co-production.
We made ‘FOR THE RIVALRY’ as the third installment of a mini-series that aimed to shape the “world” we were trying to build as part of our marketing strategy for our FOOTYTWO Capsule Collection. The goal was to publicize our product with in-video marketing, gain attention online, strengthen brand interest, and bolster sales.
For this shoot, I assumed the role of audio technician + mic operator, two jobs which I honestly had no idea how to do. It was a baptism by fire which I welcomed, since by this point I had enjoyed multiple experiences doing other jobs on set. I had always wanted to learn how to capture audio using proper film equipment, so when the opportunity came - even though I didn’t know how to - I immediately offered myself up.
It’s a fun story how I met two of the actors who starred in the ‘conference’ scenes for this video: on the first shoot day we ever had, I noticed two highschoolers playing pick-up (well, as well as a one-aside team can play) on the field opposite. When we took a quick break, one of them approached me to ask what I was doing. I explained that I was shooting campaign materials for this product that my two friends and I came up with a month earlier, which to our surprise and delight, had done incredible numbers in pre-order - enough for us to place another bulk order. More product means more marketing. They were impressed. I asked them for their contact details, in the case that we ever needed two actors who (actually) knew how to play football. They subsequently starred in two of our three mini-series episodes, and we became friends through the process.
It’s through these sorts of experiences that I have recruited many collaborators - just by looking around, observing, and being open.
